Holocaust Survivors Haifa Home

ICEJ Provides Help Holocaust Survivors Need

By David R. Parsons, ICEJ Senior Vice President and Spokesman

The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem has maintained a special Home for Holocaust Survivors in Haifa for the past 14 years. This home has developed into a warm, caring community for some 60 Survivors currently living at the Haifa Home. The residents experienced the worst horrors of World War II in their youth, and now they are living under the constant threat of massive rocket barrages from the ruthless terror militia Hezbollah in nearby Lebanon.

Help for Vulnerable Holocaust Survivors

Since the atrocities of October 7, the ICEJ has taken vital steps to secure the Haifa Home residents better. We have added above-ground bomb shelters, including a new safe room off the community dining hall. We have stored food and secured a large generator in case of a power outage. Should there be intense rocket barrages from Hezbollah, we have arranged for their protection in underground bomb shelters at an adjacent school and prepared for the possibility of a prolonged stay there.

Haifa is a large port city set on a long ridge that is exposed to rocket fire from Lebanon. Hezbollah has even mapped out the city by drone surveillance and would strike it harder than in 2006 when it took direct aim at the large Rambam Hospital. The port area has dozens of chemical storage tanks and other industrial facilities that present inviting targets for the enemy and could pose huge risks for the city’s 300,000 residents.

The Christian Embassy wants to be ready for any scenario that the Haifa Home may face. Our volunteer team and administrative partners on site have close ties to local municipal and security officials. But it would greatly help to have funds in reserve to meet any urgent needs that arise. The most likely need is ensuring Holocaust Survivors in our Home and other shelters in the city have enough food and medicine should they need to stay in their safe rooms for an extended time.

Make a generous and compassionate gift today to help us care for Holocaust Survivors under serious threat in northern Israel
